Sergeant City
FWA – 1940-41

As the nation prepared for war, a housing shortage inhibited the growth of strategic bases such as Gowen Field. In response, the government constructed a housing complex on the Boise Bench. One hundred units in single-, two-, four-, and six-family buildings, provided living space primarily for non-commissioned officers who, with the ranks of master sergeant, technical first sergeant, and staff sergeant, gave the complex its name - Sergeant City. Located north of Overland Road on Latah Street, the complex is accessed via the militarily-themed Custer and Pershing Drives.
