Boise Gallery of Art

WPA – 1936-37
Wayland & Fennell / Tourtellotte & Hummel

Boise Gallery of Art

The Boise Gallery of Art was originally designed and constructed of Boise sandstone in the Art Deco style and consisted of a statuary hall flanked by two exhibition wings. The original façade, visible inside the lobby of the present Boise Art Museum, was retained through major expansions in 1973, 1988, and 1998. When completed, it represented one of the first cultural institutions to be housed in Julia Davis Park, now joined by the Idaho State Historical Museum, the Idaho Black History Museum, and Zoo Boise.

Features to Note

  • Geometric detailing
  • Pilasters emphasizing vertical lines
  • Iron grilles which echo the geometric and vertical motifs
