Orchid: Cultural Heritage Preservation

Acequia, Idaho

Acequia Merchantile Building, Acequia

The Acequia Mercantile building, in the vicinity of Rupert, Idaho, was constructed in 1916. Serving the small community of Acequia as store, post office, and hardware store during its history, the building was eventually altered from its original design. In 2007, the Jentzsch/Kearl Farms company purchased the structure and began a refurbishment that returned the building to something similar to its original characteristics. By retaining the structure in the community, the Jentzschs preserved a local landmark and touchstone of history in rural Idaho. Their efforts are worthy of this Orchid award for Cultural Heritage Preservation.
