Linen Building
Orchid: Contribution to Historic Preservation
Awarded to Hale Development
For the renovation of the Linen Building in Boise

The American Steam Laundry building had been constructed and was in operation by 1912. It continued in that capacity until just a decade or so ago. In 2005, it was acquired by Boise developer David Hale and became the cornerstone, both literally and figuratively, of his new mixed-use neighborhood. In fact, David named the neighborhood the Linen District. In need of significant repairs, the site also qualified for assistance under the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality’s Brownfield Program. Since renovation, the building has served as an event center. David’s commitment to both the environment and historic preservation is proof enough that Hale Development deserves Preservation Idaho’s distinction for Contribution to Historic Preservation.
