Heyburn State Park & North Region of IDPR

Orchid: Cultural Heritage Preservation

Awarded to Heyburn State Park and the North Region of the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation

For and exemplary job in hosting the 2007 Pacific Northwest Field School

As the oldest park in the Idaho system of State Parks, Heyburn is for many reasons the jewel in the crown. Their extensive collection of historic buildings, many constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, are beautiful tributes to the New Deal in Idaho. In 2007, the park hosted the Pacific Northwest Field School – a joint program of the state historical societies and parks departments in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho and the University of Oregon’s degree program in historic preservation. Through this program, students and lay practitioners in all three states are allowed the opportunity to learn about historic preservation through a hands-on experience. Heyburn State Park served as an exemplary host and for this and other efforts to preserve and restore this important site Heyburn State Park and the North Region of the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation deserve recognition for their efforts on behalf of Cultural Heritage Preservation.
