Orchids

Excellence in Historic Preservation

Awarded to projects that have demonstrated outstanding adherence to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards in preservation, restoration, renovation, or adaptive reuse (residential or commercial).

  • Karl and Joyce Barfuss - For the restoration of the historic Bush Building in Rupert.

Contribution to Historic Preservation

Awarded to projects that have been successful in the tasteful restoration, addition, or remodel of an existing building (residential or commercial).

  • Robert and Rebecca Mitchell - For the renovation of the Sun Valley Fabric Granary Building in Hailey.
  • Blackfin Technology - For the renovation of the King Building in Boise.
  • Dexter and Cindy Ball - For the renovation of the Schubert House in Gooding.

Preservation-Sensitive New Construction

Awarded to non-professional individuals distinguished for service in historic preservation. This would include, but not be limited to, those who volunteer for preservation organizations, historical societies or museums.

  • Sun Valley Center for the Arts - For the sympathetic construction of the Castellano-Wood Family Classroom adjacent to the historic Ezra Pound home in Hailey.
  • John Sofro - For the construction of Bullion Square Retail Center in Hailey.

Friend of Preservation

Awarded to non-professional individuals distinguished for service in historic preservation. This would include, but not be limited to, those who volunteer for preservation organizations, historical societies or museums.

  • Mark Baltes - Boise
  • Cheryl Conrad - Emmett
  • Norman and Janet Tolman - Bancroft
  • Thomas Ensley - Caldwell
  • Geneva Trent - Eagle
  • Donner "Rusty" Houtz - Fort Hall

Distinguished Preservationist

Awarded to professionals distinguished for service in historic preservation. Nominees for this award would be those whose job it is to further the cause of historic preservation in Idaho through direct projects or education.

  • Larry Jones - Boise

Cultural Heritage Preservation

Awarded to educational programs and projects that have made a positive impact toward the preservation of cultural heritage and open spaces, as well as the restoration and rehabilitation of historic landmarks and roadside architecture.

  • Dry Creek Historical Society - For the preservation of the Schick-Ostolasa Farmstead in Hidden Springs.
  • Bruce Whittig, Star Moxley & Gregory Kaslo - For the restoration of the Maytag Washerwoman on Vista Avenue in Boise.

Heritage Stewardship *New Category*

Awarded to organizations or individuals that have shown dedication to historic preservation through the long-term maintenance and care of historic, architecturally significant, or culturally important sites and structures. 

  • Pleasant View Community Association - For the long term maintenance and care of the Pleasant View School in Post Falls.
  • Ola Ladies Club - For the preservation and protection of the historic buildings of Ola.
  • The Idaho Department of Lands - For the conservation and safeguarding of key historic buildings including Pietro Belluschi's Idaho Statesman Building (Capitol Park Plaza) in downtown Boise.

Onion

Examples of projects or programs insensitive to historic preservation can be awarded in the following categories: individuals or corporations who demolish historically significant buildings or sites; new construction that is insensitive or ignorant of the neighborhood's history.

  • The City of Meridian - For the unnecessary and shortsighted demolition of the Meridian Creamery complex in Meridian.
