Bown House

Preservation Idaho is pleased to partner with the Boise School District to offer the Bown House, a living history education center, to 4th grade students in the Boise School District. In this sandstone home built in 1879 by Idaho pioneers Joseph & Temperance Bown, students are transported back to the 1890's to experience the life as children of that time. Six rooms, each with its own activity guide the children through the family events in the parlor, the daily chores in and around the kitchen, the decisions of the farm and finances, the geography of the Oregon Trail, the innovations in communication and media and a day in the life of a one-room schoolhouse. The Bown House was a recipient of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's 1995 Preservation Award, as well as awards from the Boise City Historic Preservation and the Idaho Heritage Trust.
