Ada County Courthouse - Boise, Idaho

A 1939 product of the Works Progress Administration and local contractor Jordan Wilcomb, this historic edifice has served as the center of county government in Ada County. Designed in the Art Deco Style, the courthouse (built of Indiana Limestone) and its murals (painted in a vernacular style which depict the history of the Western Expansion into Idaho) are perfect examples of the depression-era frugality seen across the nation at the time. More recently, the building has been purchased by the State of Idaho. Even though plans put forth by the Department of Administration for renovation and addition to the structure would cost no additional expense, there is continuing support in the State Legislature to demolish the structure and replace it with something new.
