Preservation Idaho and Buffalo Heart Homes did not raise enough funds to place the minimum required bid ($460,000) at the auction of the Justice George Stewart and Mary Wood homes in Central Addition. In fact the auction, which took place Friday, April 11, 2014, failed to result in the placement of a single bid.
The property and the homes it contains have now reverted to the ownership of Washington Federal Savings Bank. It would be safe to assume that their intent is to sell the property, but we cannot say for sure if that’s the case.
Ultimately, with your generous gifts, we raised approximately $7,500 towards our goal. At the moment Preservation Idaho and our partners are uncertain of our next steps, but we hope that our donors will consent to let us keep their donations for further advocacy efforts in the neighborhood. We pledged to refund the donations of those who wished us to if this project did not materialize. However we are not finished with the effort to secure the future of these homes by other means.
If you wish to have your donation returned, please contact Kathleen Barrett at Preservation Idaho. If you wish to continue supporting the project you do not need to contact us. If you learned of our fundraising goal recently and still wish to contribute, it’s not too late.
Please contribute to the preservation of Boise's Central Addition.

Preservation Idaho has been monitoring activities in the Central Addition for many years, hoping to stem the tide of demolition and neglect.
Samantha has formed a committee poised to bid on property in the heart of the Central Addition, on the east side of 5th at the corner of Myrtle (412 and 420 S. 5th street) that are in foreclosure. Samantha would like to restore these remarkable buildings (dating from the 1890s) and redevelop the property, following “green” principles, as a mixed use development.
In spite of the Central Addition's unique heritage, many of the architecturally and historically significant houses have been lost and others face imminent demolition or removal.
Samantha Martin and her committee (Buffalo Heart Homes) seek to inspire revitalization of this neighborhood and open the door for the development of non-profit and community-minded businesses within a historic, ecologically-minded neighborhood.
